Dying to Tell You About This One… Literally.

When I got the call to direct an episode of Pretty Freekin Scary, I knew instantly this was going to be something special. A 14-year-old girl who dies, argues her way back from the Underworld, and then has to survive middle school with two supernatural guardians in tow? Please. Sign me up immediately.

Created by Jason P. Hauser and produced by CakeStart Entertainment and Cloudco Entertainment for Disney Channel and Disney+, this show had an energy unlike anything I’d worked on before. Showrunner and executive producer Jessica Kaminsky set such a bold, irreverent tone, supported by a phenomenal EP team including Kory Lunsford, Loris Kramer Lunsford, Sean Gorman, Ian Lambur, Ryan Wiesbrock, Jason Netter, and Ed Galton.

And the cast — Eliana Su’a as Frankie, Kyan Samuels as Pretty, Leah Mei Gold as Scary, Yonas Kibreab as Remy, and Emma Shannon as Nyx — brought such fresh, wild energy to every single scene. These kids were fearless, funny, and fully committed to the delightfully weird world they were living in. Coaching them on the entirety of their first (and only season), while getting to step into that world as director for an episode was, honestly, pretty freekin’ amazing.
